Drop Ping / ICMP requests with iptables

Here is one easy way to to this:

iptables -A INPUT -p icmp -j DROP

I don't believe there is much overhead in doing this, but I am not certain. If anyone could follow up on that question, it would be good.

To clear iptables, iptables -F
